a week of celebrations {sort of}

This is a big week around here. Joel’s birthday is today and our 10th (sheesh! how has it been 10 years already?) anniversary is Thursday. The bummer is, we won’t be doing much celebrating…at least not yet. It is HOT in Kansas. Like 107 and 108 degrees everyday hot. And because of the heat and drought, corn harvest started this weekend…which is crazy early! So we will have to put our partying on hold for now.

The boys and I wanted to do something special for Joel today even though he will be busy harvesting. So, we went to town this morning and picked up his favorite burgers and a balloon. Levi thought his daddy would like a green balloon. {This is a side note, but did you know that there is a helium shortage? Where have I been? The lady at the grocery store said they have had no helium since Valentines Day. She said hospitals and big party stores are first on the supply list so she had no idea when they would ever get more. I had no idea. A reminder that I take way too many things for granted.} Anyway, she felt bad for Levi who wanted so badly to get a balloon for his daddy’s birthday. So she blew one up and put it on a stick for him. He was thrilled.

We got home and Levi was so excited to wish his daddy a happy birthday with his balloon and burgers. We had almost made it to the door when the balloon popped. Sad. 🙁 At least I got a picture of it so we had proof.

Joel is such a great daddy to our boys…he was the best daddy to our little girl too. And of course he is the love of my life. I like him a lot! Even though the celebrating is on hold for now, I hope he knows that we think he is the best! I am so thankful for the day he was born.

Happy Birthday, Joel!

  • Ceri - Awww, such a sweet boy! Sorry it is so hot there. And it’s sad and true about the helium shortage. I was at the dollar tree a few months ago and they were out too. Not sure when they would get it back in and they told me about it. I goggled it and read it’s true. It is also a non renewable resource and used for much more than balloons. 🙁 I am afraid that floating balloons are going to be a thing of the past some day. So sad! It’s nice that they had a stick for that. I might think of that for my next party. And then i don’t have that balloon ribbon for the cats to eat. Get some dowels and paint them pretty colors. Reusable too!ReplyCancel

  • creole wisdom - A helium shortage, who would of known? Certainly not me!

    Happy anniversary! That is wonderful. You will get your celebration after your way-too-hot summer is over! Hang in there Jess 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Lindsey C - The helium shortage was a BIG deal when the balloon release for little Paxten was being organized. People ended up driving states away just trying to gather up enough tanks. Sounds like if it were being planned now it wouldn’t have been able to take place. Crazy!ReplyCancel

  • sharron - Happy Birthday and Happy 10Th Anniversary too!
    This weather has been so hot I was wondering how the crops were doing. I will keep everyone in my prayers as they harvest this season.
