a very early corn harvest

It was a typical day of sitting outside in the afternoon and Levi controlling how much snack his brother could have sharing a snack.

Griffin doesn’t seem to mind that his brother thinks he is in charge of everything he does. He is just glad to be fed.

Joel was harvesting and pretty soon the combine started picking corn in the field around our house. Griffin was waving away. He waves at anything and anyone now.

Levi, however, got on the phone and called his daddy. He was trying to figure out how he could get in on the harvesting. Just watching and waving wasn’t going to work for him.

Pretty soon Levi’s uncle drove up in the grain cart to pick him up. He’s a pretty lucky boy to be able to pick up the phone and the next thing he knows a tractor is picking him up in his backyard.

Levi was so happy. He loves everything about farming. And he has loved spending time with his Uncle James this summer.

They waved goodbye and drove off.

Poor Griffin always gets left behind. Someday you will get to ride too, buddy.

We stayed outside and watched the action from a distance.

Corn harvest was so early this year…they started the last week in July. Usually they aren’t combining corn until the beginning of September. Crazy. It is going to be an unusually quiet fall around here.

Levi called his dad almost everyday of harvest to see if I could bring him out to the field. Joel usually drives truck during harvest…Levi loves riding in the truck too. His favorite truck is the blue one…yes, he even has a favorite semi truck. 🙂

He takes everything about the farm so seriously.

I’m so thankful that Levi’s daddy doesn’t mind having a little tag a long.

Corn harvest 2012…done.

  • Emily @ Paging Dr. Grace - I love the close-up picture of Levi and his uncle…Levi looks like he is in heaven! So cute!ReplyCancel

  • Bridge - Such beautiful boys! Love those grins.ReplyCancel

  • Jamie B - This makes me miss KS! My nephews are just like Levi-they just can’t get enough of being with daddy on the farm! I love it when I can take my kids home to spend time with their uncles in the tractors and combines (green, of course:), and my husband enjoys getting back to the farm as well:) Love your blog!ReplyCancel

  • Krista - Oh your boys are just beautiful! Those two little smiling faces are so sweet! What a fun childhood they are experiencing 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Mary Ann - Oh my stars!! Those are such cute boys. I agree…the picture of Levi and his uncle….that smile. It will melt hearts for years to come. The last picture of Levi and Daddy – well, do they look alike or what? Little Griffin is just as cute. I like the wave. I guess that is one good thing about the hot weather….an early harvest. Here in Utah I think some of the farmer’s are cutting their 4th crop of alfalfa since it has been so warm. I know my grass won’t stop growing and it feels like I mow it every 5 days. Fun stuff to see your boys outside enjoying the harvest.ReplyCancel

  • Toni :O) - Awesome photos…the one of Griffin looking out toward the field is sooo cute! Having family close by is a blessing!ReplyCancel

  • Kara - Wow! I can’t believe you guys are done with corn harvest! It looks like we’ll be a bit early here as well but not THAT early! Maybe since you guys are done you should come on up to NE for Husker Harvest Days and stay with us! 🙂 Glad to hear that harvest went well and Levi had so much fun! Hope to see you all again soon!ReplyCancel

  • Becca - My boy would LOVE to hang around for a day. Hehe…ReplyCancel

  • Cindy - Harvest pictures are simply the best! My 3 kiddos were so very fortunate to get in on a little wheat harvest with grandpa this year. My 2 year old little guy just couldn’t get enough of it either!ReplyCancel

  • Sue - This post made me so sad – my boy would’ve loved to have been doing something similar (except on a wine farm in South Africa) with his daddy. We miss his daddy so much, especially during harvest times. And we miss being on the farm too! So glad that you get to be happy and to share this for both your boys, what wonderful memories. Love that they are so amped about farming. And it’s awesome to see the ripe corn – we grew some in our garden last year, but we picked too early. Nice to see that the plants actually dry out before you pick… hahaha… we are so ignorant.
