building a snowman {a first}

In December we had the best weather in Kansas…especially for winter. It was awesome to be able to spend so much time outside. And then it snowed. Which was also awesome, just in a different way. The boys were super excited so I bundled them both up in their winter gear and that is about the same time the excitement ended…at least for one of them.

I don’t know if it was the snowsuit (I can’t imagine why?!) or the snow but he was not a happy little boy.

Levi thought it was great.

He was running all over the yard looking for the biggest snow piles.

He lasted about five minutes and then he got too cold and was ready to go inside.

Griffin did stop crying long enough to watch his brother play but he wasn’t about to touch the snow. Twenty minutes of work to get them ready to go out and play for five minutes…that is how it always works, right?

A few days later it warmed up and we went out to play in the last bit of snow before it melted.

I love listening to Levi as he plays. He is getting quite the imagination and says the funniest things. He always talks about quantities in terms of “loads”. I want a huge load of macaroni, mom. That’s a huge load of books. Look at this load (aka everything he could find in the house) I’m taking to Bethlehem, mom. This day he had a huge load of snow in his truck.

Oh look. Griffin still wasn’t too fond of the whole snow thing. He kept his distance…and wasn’t about to crack a smile.

And then daddy came home and the snowman building began.

This was Levi’s first time to build a snowman. Little boys have so many things to learn. He is always watching to see how Joel does things.

He’s got a good daddy…and they have so much fun together.

A few finishing touches. Nothing says snowman like a rock face and camo hat. 🙂

Finished. Their first snowman. Levi was pretty proud.

Later that night was when Griffin threw up and the flu invaded our house just in time for Christmas. No wonder he wasn’t thrilled about playing outside. Poor little guy!

  • Jennysue - My hubby does the snowman building also 🙂 We rarely get snow though- maybe once a year and it isn’t normally very deep. Totally true about spending all that time getting them ready and then they only play for a fraction of the time you spent!! That is hilarious about Levi using the term load for everything… such a farm term, right? 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Jody - Cute! Emmy finally got to build a snowman after Christmas. You’d think in Ohio she wouldn’t have had to wait until she was 3 to do so, but we hardly had any snow last year (1 snow day) and the year before that it snowed once real good, but not a packing snow. It was good for sledding, though.ReplyCancel

  • Beth - LOVE LOVE this 🙂 the pictures with Levi and his dad are precious! keep those.ReplyCancel

  • Kelly - My David talks about loads too. 🙂 KellyReplyCancel

  • sara - Probably the reason your little guy was upset is because he was getting sick! 🙁 But before i read that part, i thougt of my oldest child. He hated being in bulky clothes like that when he was little. Something about stuff all up around his neck, the feeling of being stuck! LoL. Once i got him something a little less bulky, but still would keep him warm….he was fine! The whole wanting to play for 5 min….yup, normal! 🙂ReplyCancel
