levi turns three {dump truck party}

My baby is three. I still can hardly believe it. We celebrated my sweet boy on New Year’s Eve day with a dump truck pizza party. This was the first year Levi really cared about his party. He was all over the place with his ideas. One day he would say he wanted a hen party and the next day it was a milk party and the next day it was a blanket party. Pretty much he would look around the room and whatever he saw that is what kind of party he wanted. Except the hen. I don’t know where the hen idea came from because there are no hens around here. He finally settled on a dump truck party. I can handle dump trucks.

I sent my ideas to Lauren and she came up with the invitation and all the printables. She is so great! And Lauren created a dump truck party pack that is now available in her shop. The invitation in the party pack is the same one we used.

We set up a kids table with dump trucks, hard hats, Gatorade (Levi’s favorite) and favors.

The favors were chocolate rocks and construction vehicles. Levi helped me make these and thought they were so great. His cousins loved them too.

The cheesy birthday boy.

I usually just make cupcakes for birthdays but Levi kept talking about how he wanted a dump truck cake. Thankfully my sweet friend Julie makes the best cakes. Everyone should have a friend who is a cake baker. 🙂 I think this was Levi’s favorite part of his party.

I had to make a few cupcakes too. Because I just like cupcakes. 🙂

The dump truck had a big “load” of donut holes and the bowl was full of more chocolate rocks.

Levi loves people and he loves a party. He was singing happy birthday to himself right along with everyone else. It was so cute!

He was also sneaking tastes of his cake during the singing. 🙂

If you are wondering about Griffin, he loved the party too…mostly because everyone was feeding him sweets.

Whenever Levi opened a present he would say, “Wow! Thaaaank you!” He was excited about every gift no matter what it was. I could learn a few things about thankfulness from him.

I wanted just one family picture on Levi’s birthday. Waiting until the end of the party with two boys who were on a sugar high and needed naps was not a good idea. But it is real life, right?

This was my favorite though. Sing it…

It’s my party and I”ll cry if I want to.

I love you Levi…even when you are crying! Happy birthday sweet boy!

  • Michelle from Australia - Beautiful pics Jess. And thank you for making me feel ancient. I can remember crying with joy when you announced you were pregnant with Levi. I can remember crying with joy when reading he arrived safely. And now he is 3? Where does time fly when we are all getting older? What a handsome little guy he is.ReplyCancel

  • Lacie Hutchins - I will most certainly be pinning this! My little guy is already crazy about things with wheels and he is only 14 months! This will probably be one he will want in the future! Julie makes FANTASTIC cakes! My little girl was so enamored by her cake from Julie, she had put fingerprints in it before we could get a picture! LOL! Can’t believe Levi is 3! Such sweet boys! Was so glad to finally meet you in Chickfila before the holidays!ReplyCancel

  • Toni :O) - Happy Third Birthday to your amazing Levi. I’m so glad he brings so much joy to your life, such a blessing and what an adorable party! Go Julie on the cake…just too cute! :O)ReplyCancel

  • Mary Ann - Oh Jess….that is just so cute. Your Levi has such a big personality and he’s THREE!! WOW. I can tell he had a wonderful time. Here’s a song for him:
This month is such a special one, it’s birthday time for you
We’d really like to celebrate your happy day with you
Zip-a-dee-ay and heigh-dee-ho Here’s something we can do
We’ll sing a song that we all know,
    Happy Birthday to you!!

My little grandson will be three in May. For the past 8 months he has been fascinated with tractors (anything yellow with big tires is a tractor) but he calles them “crackies” because he can’t say tractor. By our home, they are widening the road so there was always lots of construction equipment around, until the weather turned us into Siberia!! You gave me some great ideas for his birthday celebration. Hope you are having a great day with your two adorable boys.ReplyCancel

  • Kristen - Such a cute party. Happy Birthday Levi! We are celebrating my twin girl’s 2nd birthday saturday cowgirl style. I hope we have a little boy (and only one) next time so I can plan some boy parties!ReplyCancel

  • Jenn - Such an adorable party. Everything you do is adorable! Levi’s tears remind me of my own children’s tears, often at the end of a big day like their birthdays. My aunt always says, “It’s hard being king for a day.” I think she’s pretty right on.ReplyCancel

  • katherine - That last photo is awesome. I really wanted my son to have a dump truck party for his 3rd birthday last fall. But he wanted trains and not just any trains but Thomas the train even though he didn’t own a single Thomas the train at the time. Maybe he’ll want a dump truck party when he’s 4. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Selina - Gorgeous party Jess, as usual! I hope your Levi had a brilliant day!ReplyCancel

  • Katherine - Hi Jess, How many pounds of the chocolate rocks did you buy for the favors and the cake? I am planning on ordering them soon, but am very unsure of how much a pound translates to!! Thanks!ReplyCancel

    Jess Reply:

Katherine-I think I bought about 3 1/2 or 4 pounds…can’t remember for sure! That was plenty for all the favors, the cake, and a bowl on the dessert table.
