a trip to the pasture

In the spring Joel always takes cattle out to the pasture to graze. Anytime he asks the boys if they want to go out to the pasture with him they get so excited. I wish you could see their faces. I know I say this all the time, but they have the best daddy. It’s true.

The boys have been several times before but this was my first time to come along. A family trip to the pasture…kind of like a family date. Joel had to take mineral out to the cattle. Levi told me they were giving the cows their vitamins. The boys got off at each stop to help put the mineral in the feeders.

When you go out to the pasture you also get to see the cows up close and personal.

Well hello there, cow number twelve.

The boys act like it is no big deal. Those huge animals creeping in closer and closer. They are true farm boys already. Oh, and they really like riding on the four wheeler.

I know that I am going to blink my eyes and my two baby boys are going to be big boys driving ME around on a four wheeler. Let’s just pretend that won’t ever happen.

I wish I could remember what Levi was telling the cows. It was so funny. He just kept talking and talking like they were his best friends.

We stopped by the pond before we left the pasture. The boys love throwing rocks into the water. I’m pretty sure they would have stayed there for hours.

Griffin would hold open his hand and grunt. The grunting meant please put another rock in my hand so I can throw it…over and over and over. Levi got his own rocks. He tried to find the biggest ones he could lift. He is a pretty strong little guy. 🙂

I loved going out to the pasture with my boys. We decided that we would have to take a few more trips out there this summer…and maybe have a few family picnics by the pond too.

  • Cheryl - Levi is learning to respect and love animals…something my Dad has for animals to this day as he grew up on a farm. Farming is an honorable profession! Enjoy your summer!!ReplyCancel

  • Melissa - Some of my best memories are of riding the tractor with my dad, counting the calves in the field, helping to move the farm equipment from one field to another, wheat harvest with my dad. He passed away this spring, and I treasure those memories with my dad. Even with adult kids of my own, I was always daddy’s little girl. Keep making memories with those precious boys.ReplyCancel
