Way back in January Levi had a birthday. How is this year going by so fast?
He decided months before his birthday that he wanted a toad party. I think it all started last summer when he would go “toad hunting”. So toads it was…and we threw in some frogs too.
My friend, Julie, made these adorable cupcakes. She is so great. I just send her a picture and she comes up with something fabulous. Levi was pretty thrilled with them too.
This was the dessert table…obviously.
Levi loves the dirt and worms custard at Freddy’s. So we decided to come up with our own dirt and toads.
Each jar had a little scoop of ice cream, crushed Oreos, and a few gummy frogs on top. There were lots of extra gummy frogs to eat too.
For favors we sent the kids home with bean bag frogs.
I used this tutorial to make them (except I didn’t end up adding the beads on for eyes). They were super easy until I had to turn them inside out…that took forever. It was definitely a labor of love. And I heard they didn’t hold up too well once they got home. I’m not sure if it was kids throwing them or my sewing. 😉 My boys still have their frogs…so I guess a few of them held up.
The table was lined with a roll of drawing paper and lily pads that I cut out.
I made some lily pad garland out of felt too.
I really wanted to hide these “toads” outside so the kids could go on one of Levi’s “toad hunts” but it was January…and freezing cold…so the toads just sat in the middle of the table and looked cute instead.
We had soup and sandwiches for lunch.
And a room full of cousins…and a few friends (Levi is convinced they are his cousins too). My kid table is getting full!
How is he four years old already?
He loved his birthday.
Toads and lots of cousins…he was a happy boy.
The presents are always pretty fun too.
Happy birthday, Levi! You are a joy to our family in so many ways and I am so thankful that I get to be your mama and plan toad parties with you.

kim - I always love your “party” post. Your attention to detail is so great. Can’t believe he his 4 already. I remember waiting to read/see picks when he was born 🙂 Thanks for sharing your sweet family.
Mary Ann - Adorable!! My grandson turns 4 in 3 weeks…where did the time go. They are so grown up!! What a cute party!!
amber - Such a great, fun, boy party:)! Super cute. I once threw a pig party for my pink pig loving girl & made little stuffed pigs for the kids to take home. I’ve never made favors like that again. Lol! It was so much harder than I thought it would be. But we still have them & they are a really sweet memory:). Thanks for sharing the toads…
Lea - Oh, what a perfect little boys party. What little boy doesn’t love a toad. So, so cute! And, I love the children’s table. I know that has and will come in handy for years to come. Happy week!
creole wisdom - What a perfect party, Jess. I don’t know where you find the energy to create such lovely details! I know what you mean about a sewing project being more work than you think it might be… I made 18 aprons for a bridal shower last year and wondered if I had lost my mind about halfway through :/
Jamie - I really just want to copy all of your parties! I love them all. Really.
Allison - What an adorably unique party! Love it! FYI, the link for your friend Julie is coming up as a for sale site..
Jessica Johnson - This post and party is precious. And I feel like I need to start every post “Back in…” And I don’t have a pregnancy to blame. So many cute details. Good job, mama!
Stefanie - What an amazing party! You did a great job!
Ann - You need to plan a trip to Conway, Arkansas, just 30 miles north of Little Rock, the first week-end in May. We have ‘Toad Suck Daze’ (named for the area of the Arkansas River and the lock & dam located there). It is a big festival with a Toad Master, Toad Races(the kids find toads and bring them or they can use a toad that is provided), Toad shirts, LOTS to eat, plenty of crafts for sale, carnival rides, antique car show, and it is all downtown so easy for a stroller!!! Starts on Friday and ends on Sunday. I think this was the 32nd year…well know singers on Fri and Sat evening with worship music on Sunday. So much to do! Look it up on the web.
Love watching your boys grow, can’t wait for Mac #4 this summer.
