meet jake

I have so much to tell you about Jake and I am getting so far behind. I guess that is what happens when you have three kids. And what happens when you have a newborn and both of your older boys get hand, foot, and mouth (yes they did…but we won’t talk about that). Last week was all about surviving….and unfortunately not about sleeping at all. And survive we did thanks to some extra grace and patience from the Lord…and a lot of movies too. I am still working on catching up on my sleep though. I have a feeling that might not happen for awhile.

So…from where I left off in my last post

I called the hospital and told them I thought my water broke. The nurse said that I should come in but not to rush if I wanted to take a shower or something like that. So Joel took the boys over to his parents and I was trying to get things a little bit in order around the house. My house was a disaster and I was not prepared to have a baby at all. I still had 11 days, remember? Since I had already taken a shower that morning (a miracle!), I was trying to decide how much I could get done before we had to leave for the hospital when Joel came back and asked if I was ready to go. Apparently he was. He talked me into getting my bag packed and getting into the car. He thought it was more important to get to the hospital before he had to deliver the baby himself than it was to have a clean house. I assured him that wasn’t going to happen…but he still won. It wasn’t until after we got to the hospital that I realized I hadn’t even eaten anything since lunch. I was so hungry. I blamed that on Joel too because he made me rush out of the house…of course. 😉

We got to the hospital about 7:15 that evening. By this time nothing had changed. I was still having contractions but they were about the same as they had been the prior few days. It turns out that my “did your water break” test came back negative. My doctor (who happened to be on call that night, praise the Lord!) came in to give me the results and I asked him if he was sending me home. I was just sure we weren’t going to have this baby that night. But he told me that I was dilated to a four and that I wasn’t going anywhere. I could hardly believe it. We actually were going to have this baby that night.

This was definitely my easiest delivery yet. After breaking my water, I got stuck at a four which always happens to me. After a lovely epidural and some pitocin to kick my body into gear it was time for baby! At 11:30 Joel announced that we had our third boy and we got to meet our sweet Jake.

Late that night as I sat with this brand new baby swaddled up in my arms, I was overwhelmed once again by how God continues to bring life to our family. Three boys! What a precious gift Jake Fisher is. I can hardly believe I get to be his mama.

My first labor was similar with me thinking (but being in great denial even though I was THREE days past my due date) that my water had broken and my husband convinced me to call my doctor and he said he would give me two hours before I had to come in. MUCH to my husband’s distress I was cleaning, organizing, packing my bag, asking him to cook me dinner and then us sit down and eat it . . . 🙂 But hey, he didn’t deliver the baby in the car so it all worked out just fine.

    Happy newborn days!! KellyReplyCancel
